Thought to be the reincarnated spirit of the oxen that once dragged logs from the forest, the Hodag was said to have the head of a frog, legs adorned with huge claws and the back of a dinosaur. Despite its chilling appearance, Rhinelander adopted the creature as its official symbol, and even the local high school uses it as a mascot.
