One of the more eccentric-looking cryptids, the Hodag was discovered back in 1893 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Thought to be the reincarnated spirit of the oxen that once dragged logs from the forest, the Hodag was said to have the head of a frog, legs adorned with huge claws and the back of a dinosaur. Despite its chilling appearance, Rhinelander adopted the creature as its official symbol, and even the local high school uses it as a mascot.
